“No act of kindness no matter how small is ever wasted” Aesop
This past year has made us more aware than ever of the importance of looking after ourselves and each other. It really is as simple as the ‘little things that count’; these will not only give you a boost of feel-good vibes but will also brighten someone else’s day. This current lockdown brings its own challenges with regards to acts of kindness so it’s time to get a little creative to bring some sunshine into someone else’s life.
Share a memory
Social media and smartphones have made it easier for us to be reminded of photos, videos, and posts over the years. From a blurry mid-karaoke pose to captured moments of laughter and togetherness, share these memories with those who helped make them. Are there other memories you share? Maybe there’s a particular film, book, or song that reminds you of each other that you can share quotes or lyrics from to bring that smile to someone.
Put it in writing
How often do we send or receive letters these days? Whilst texting and emailing are quicker methods of sending messages, who hasn’t had a smile brought to their face when they receive something in the post that isn’t a bill? You can also take the time for yourself and write down those moments you have achieved something to be proud of, journaling is a good way of keeping these moments in one place where you can celebrate you.
That little something
There are more and more companies or sites coming up with ideas for that little something to brighten their day. From letterbox flowers to personalized ketchup bottles, there are lots of ways to bring some joy to someone. If online shopping is a bit of a stretch at the moment, you can always send something that you have made; from photo memory cards to homemade biscuits or playlists, there are many ways to bring a smile to someone.
Being kind to yourself can be done in many ways but isn’t a concept that comes easily to most. Have that warm cup of tea in your favorite mug, make a playlist of songs that make you smile and want to sing and dance, have that bubble bath, and take time for yourself. It isn’t selfish, it’s necessary.
On this Random Acts of Kindness Day, how are you going to bring some kindness in?
